Jerry Handley

Jerry Handley is the founder and head coach of Viking Performance Training LLC. Jerry was a strength and conditioning coach for West Virginia University for over 10 years, where he was directly responsible for the strength and conditioning of some of WVU’s most successful athletic programs in that time. While at WVU, Handley worked with every varsity sports program through his career.  Viking Performance trained teams and individuals have won state championships, national championships, and competed in world championships since beginning their Viking Performance training.

Handley has coached multiple Olympians including Gold & Silver medalists, and his athletes have found success on the international level, with multiple athletes winning Gold at the prestigious Pan-American Games. Handley-trained teams have totaled 11 conference championships while at West Virginia University in various sports, and the rifle team returned to dominant form with back-to-back national championships using his training for core strength, cardiorespiratory fitness, and control of balance. Handley was also involved in an assistant role for WVU football’s 2007 Gator Bowl and 2006 Sugar Bowl title, as well as WVU basketball’s 2005 Elite Eight run.

Jerry has trained Olympic runners, shooters and wrestlers. Handley athletes also include a 1st-Round NBA Draft Pick, MLB draft picks, and National Strength and Conditioning All-Americans, over fifteen women’s and men’s professional soccer players, Strongman National Championship qualifiers, powerlifting champions, international championship swimmers, and MAS Wrestling National Champions. Many of the athletes Handley has trained still hold school records.

Handley has Master’s Degrees in Exercise Physiology as well as Athletic Coaching Education. He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association, as well as a Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified through the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association. Jerry has worked alongside some of the nation’s top strength coaches, including several years with Mike Barwis (former WVU and Michigan Director of Strength and Conditioning, founder of Barwis Methods), Chris Allen (Director of Strength and Conditioning at Arizona), and Mike Joseph (Director of Strength and Conditioning at WVU). Jerry’s work with Barwis has earned him a Level 8: Master Performance Coach distinction.

As well as his work training elite athletes, Handley has spent years competing in mixed martial arts, amateur boxing, kickboxing, and submission grappling tournaments.

Calvin is an American Council on Exercise (ACE) certified Personal Trainer dedicated to helping those passionate about living a healthy lifestyle.  Whether that lifestyle is just to maintain a workout curriculum or an athletic purpose looking to take their workouts to a new level he strives to see success from Viking clients.

Calvin has been a part of Viking Performance Training from almost the time it opened and has risen through the ranks from an intern to a full time Coach.  Under the tutelage of Jerry, Calvin has assisted in the training of multiple Olympic-pool swimmers, basketball and swimming finalists, collegiate football, soccer, and baseball players, and numerous other clients from varying backgrounds.


Chris Eloi

M.S., B.S., Minor in Strength & Conditioning, USAW Level 1 Sports Performance Coach

Chris brings hands-on experience from both the coaching and athletic side to Viking Performance Training.  A former collegiate baseball player at West Virginia University, Chris understands the demands placed on student-athletes at the highest levels.  With passions in weightlifting, mobility, and building strength, Chris and his attention to detail are a valuable addition to the VPT family.

Before returning to Morgantown and joining Viking, Chris trained middle school, high school, and college athletes as a coach with NST Performance in Canton, Ohio.  Chris was also the Head Strength & Conditioning Coach for Morgantown High School and WVU Club Sports.

Chris has a Master’s Degree in Coaching and Sport Education and a Minor in Strength & Conditioning, as well as receiving the USA Weightlifting Sports Performance Coach certification (USAW I), the leading national certification for weightlifting and explosive training for athletes.



On-Site Personal Trainers

John picJohn Mouser, co-owner of Mouser Strength Dynamics, has been successfully training clients for almost a decade.  John, who was voted Morgantown’s Best Personal Trainer in 2015, has trained championship Mixed Martial Artists, National Champion Boxers, championship strongmen and powerlifters, as well as being a personal trainer for many clients looking to lose weight, gain strength, and get in shape.

John is also the West Virginia coordinator for Progressive Fighting Systems and a Military Agency Law Enforcement Civilian for the MALC Training Institute.

Micki picMicki Pauley is the proprietor and mastermind of the Micki Lifestyle.  A former elementary school teacher, Micki is a perennial top-5 NPC Bikini Competitor and aspiring strongwoman.  Since beginning Micki’s Lifestyle, Micki received her Personal Training Certification, as well as Fitness Nutrition training, from the International Sports Sciences Association.

Micki conducts 1-on-1 personal training as well as nutritional planning and strategy for optimal goal-reaching and performance, as well as conduction the highly successful Warrior Body class at Viking Performance.  More information on Warrior Body, which runs Tuesday and Thursday evenings as well as Saturday mornings, can be found on Micki’s website.

Micki also often works with children of any age, and heads up a Homeschool Fitness Program (youngest child thus far has been 4 years old!), allows children in her Warrior Body group, and works with several schools and youth clubs on after school fitness programs.
