Tina attended West Virginia University on academic scholarship, where she walked on the rowing team and became an integral part of the team racing in the top boat during all four of her years and taking top three in most races.  During this time, Tina says the lifting portion of training was always a favorite.  After nine total years as a graduate assistant coach and then head assistant coach for the WVU rowing team, Tina got back into training and to get into shape.  To make it more interesting and competitive, Tina was introduced to strongman and powerlifting, where she was instantly hooked.

Tina says, “Strongman and powerlifting have become crucial parts of my life, including everything from posing a challenge, to enjoying the camaraderie, and being a fun and unique experience every time.  My current goals are to compete and represent myself, VPT, and West Virginia well and to get stronger every day.”

Meg Overhead, Canonsburg 2013

Meg attended West Virginia University as a varsity rower on full scholarship, where she achieved high honors- National Strength and Conditioning All-American, and CRCA Second Team Mid Atlantic, as well as being voted team captain.  After a few years she became an assistant coach for WVU’s rowing team, where she began to train with the team under their strength coach at the time, Jay Handley (founder of Viking Performance Training LLC).  After many challenging workouts, Meg decided to sign up for a local unsanctioned powerlifting meet, and then strongman, always thinking “are those not the most badass women you’ve ever seen?!?!”

Meg: “I never thought I would find myself swapping miles of river every day for a workout to seeing how many times I could deadlift a car or bend nails.  From the first training session I was hooked on the sport.  My future goals are to LEARN MORE LIFT MORE and GET BIGGER!  I also hope to inadvertently be a role model for anyone who finds themselves doubting their own capabilities.  One aspect that I find extremely important to my training and likewise is echoed in the staff and environment at Viking Performance Training LLC…put the work in and bust your ass every chance you get and you’ll see results!  I guarantee you’ll have a great time getting there with the incredible staff at Viking Performance Training.”
